SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND

With The Expendables still thoroughly kicking arse at the box office ahead of Angelina Jolie’s Salt and heel-nibbling Piranha 3-D, there is one release in particular this week that is going to be a challenger, Edgar Wright’s (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

With positives reviews from the critics after it’s US release, and a cracking bit of casting with Michael Cera (standard geek portrayal) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (dayyyyym!), I think this film could whip up a frenzy in the UK. It’s out TODAY so get those Orange Wednesday codes primed!

Other releases this week include Grown-Ups after a seemingly unrelenting TV promotional schedule from Sandler & co, Avatar Special Edition with a whole NINE MINUTES more, Stieg Larsson’s novel The Girl Who Played With Fire and Kristen ‘face like a smacked arse’ Stewart’s Joan Jett biopic, The Runaways.

SNEAKY PEEK AT DANNY BOYLE’S NEXT PROJECT

I’m a pretty massive fan of Danny Boyle’s work with Trainspotting and 28 Days Later both being in my Top 20 films, so when this little beauty came online for his next film, the true-to-life 127 Hours, I was pretty damn excited!

The story follows Arol Ralston (James Franco) as he spends five days pondering survival, escape and demonstrates human courage whilst being trapped under a boulder in an isolated canyon.

BIEBER PLAYING BIEBER IN BIEBER 3-D

Justin Bieber will be starring in his own biopic at the young ol’ age of 16, due to be released in 3-D in 2011.

I really can’t be bothered to go through the ins and outs of this news, and will only mention it again if the development is cancelled, but please Davis Guggenheim, you still have time to stop this monstrosity happening and save your credibility.

That kid is a mug.

NEW ‘HARRY POTTER & THE DEATHLY HALLOWS’ POSTER

The folks over at heyuguys.co.uk dropped this little news tidbit earlier on today, revealing a new poster for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (as released by Gallimard), albeit in French this will certainly whet the whistles of Potter fans!

HeyUGuys also reveals that the darkened house shown in the poster is in fact Number 12, Grimmauld Place. Now that doesn’t mean a great deal to an uneducated Harry Potter-phobe like myself, but it’s supposedly Sirius Black’s sanctuary, oooooo!

Put November 19th on your calendars for the beginning of the end!

As reported on the FilmBubble Twitter three days ago, director Wes Craven released this little sneak peek of a familiar ‘face’ on-set of in-development Scream 4…

My horror film watching youth was spent on the original Scream trilogy so it’s definitely going to be a nostalgic viewing when the fourth installment comes out. I have full faith in Craven to unleash another scream-worthy slasher movie!

Last night this teaser trailer popped online for the Warner Bros’ Christmas release, Yogi Bear.

Dan Aykroyd is voicing Yogi himself, and with Justin Timberlake as Boo Boo this is either going to be a fun nostalgic holidays movie or a massive balls up.
